Niche Challenge Part 1

For all posts relating to this Niche Challenge

Domain name
I chose my domain for my niche challenge to be registered ($10) through my account with Dreamhost. Below follows the setup process for this initial stage.

Dream Host One Click Installs

Installed and configured WordPress
I installed WordPress through the Dreamhost one click install setup. A very handy no fuss and automated setup and upgrade process for WordPress.

WordPress Theme
I decided to go down the lines of purchasing a professionally produced theme, called Hybrido purchased off ThemeForest.

Hybrido WordPress theme

Now most WordPress themes are FREE so my reasoning for purchasing a professional theme ($37 USD) is because my niche is very much visually based and I believe taking that extra step (yet saving my time in producing this myself) will help deliver and sell my content to any website visitors. Hybrido is a very nice and elegant theme and has many extra features bundled into the theme by default, so this theme was an easy decision.

Installed WordPress plugins so far

  • All in one SEO
  • Easy privacy policy
  • Google XML Sitemap
  • IGIT Related Posts

Those are just some initial installs. As I start creating content I will install and customise some more.

AllinOne SEO setup

Launch Content
As a pre-launch I have added 2 time lapse videos I have previously created as a teaser. These are purely holding pages with relevant targeted keywords to start the SEO process until I have content written for blogs and other videos/podcasts. I have also added an about section to the home page and added an email subscription link to Mail Chimp. The footer contains social marketing links.

Logo Design (yet to be finished)
I decided to use Elance instead of 99designs. Main reason for that is I can set my own budgets without spending a bucket on package deals. I posted the job 24 hours ago and within 30 minutes of posting the job received 12 applicants. I purchased the services of ColorGraphicz for $60 (USD), you can see some of their examples here and the job is currently in the process of being completed. So it will be interesting to see the quality $60 brings for a website logo design. I will share with you some of that process in further posts.

OK so wrapping up Part 1

  • Domain name registration
  • WordPress install
  • Logo design (in progress)

So I have outlaid about $105(USD) in an initial expense, this is not including accounts I already have (Dreamhost) etc. That’s not so bad for the professional result I have achieved so far and only about 5 hours of setup time. Part 2 will be the content decisions. Look forward to sharing that with you soon.
