My Niche Challenge

I have decided to join Pat Flynn and Tyrone Shum and others on a Niche challenge. I have been thinking about joining them for a month now as that is how long the challenge has been going on for. The challenge is to choose a niche category/product and develop an online presence around that niche, which generates an income. I have been developing online for many years but never have I focused solely in this particular aspect of drawing traffic to a niche, I’ve always been focused on the development side. So as Pat and Tyrone say, this is a learning process for me as well. That said I will be using my skill set as best I can to achieve some results in this challenge.

My niche is Time Lapse Photography. Focusing on helping people create amazing time lapse sequences from all types of cameras, but with a focus on Nikon Time Lapse and Canon Time Lapse as these two companies are the leading manufactures in DSLR cameras.
Unlike Pat and Tyrone, my niche is something I am very passionate about, photography. Photography is something I do every day and I have created time lapses for various videos/podcasts in the past so I have a good idea of what I am doing. What I have found is the demand for time lapse, and people wanting to learn how to take time lapse sequences is getting higher as the camera technology advances and the user base grows and explores this area of photography. So my idea is to create a time lapse hub where I can show how to do effective time lapse photography on different types of cameras.

How am I going to do this?
Well firstly I have to put it out there, I am already really busy and have regular client work that I carry out each week, so this is very much a part time task for me. So here is how I am going to do it.

Here is a list of the resources I will be using to achieve some results.

My Traffic Strategy

  • Regular Blog posts and quality article creation
  • Spinning those quality articles
  • Videos/weekly podcast
  • Tutorials
  • YouTube Channel Links
  • Backlinks
  • Email marketing
  • Twitter strategy
  • Facebook strategy

Potential Money Earners

  • eBooks
  • Affiliate sales
  • Potentially Google Adsense ads (not likely early on)

As I mentioned my focus will be on creating time lapse sequences with Nikon and Canon DSLR cameras. Now I only own one DSLR and I am a Nikon man myself, but what I will (attempt) to do is rent the cameras that I want to focus on, perhaps one camera per week over the period of a weekend. That should be enough time to capture good sequences and be bale to talk of my experiences to help other people who attempt time lapses in the future on these cameras. There is so much more than just the cameras to focus on so it won’t all just be about cameras. There is also time lapse software, the best methods for editing and creating HD time lapse sequences. There are endless amounts of blog posts and podcasts I can think of right off the cuff.

OK enough talk, where to start? Now I have already done the keyword research so I am happy to target Nikon and Canon Time Lapse various keywords. Domain setup, WordPress blog creation and logo is my next step I think. So I look forward to reporting on that once it is completed. Check out my niche hub for all my posts relating to this topic.

Finally someone to choose a niche that I am interested too. I’ll follow your progress. Just to mention that the only rule in their niche site duel is that you can’t use any sort of paid traffic techniques as AdWords
