Time it Right

You can walk around and wander into areas and take photos but to really get the photo you want it has to be well planned. Here is photo I took that I planned to take a week earlier when I first visited the location. Scouting out great spots and subjects on this beach there are many trees and logs washed up so I took note and opened my tide times and moon phase apps. I picked my subject, which was this nice tree stump sitting perfectly on the beach then chose the perfect afternoon where the tide was at it’s highest on sunset and it was a new moon phase so if the sunset turned into a nice cloudless evening I could capture some star trails to compose with the setting sun over the ocean and the tide moving around the tree stump. Unfortunately the night sky did not eventuate into any star trails but the setting sun with the high tide and the tree stump really worked out to be a nice composition. I captured this subject from multiple position from golden hour right through to the blue hour and the depth of change in the colours over the period of maybe 45 minutes was spectacular to watch and capture. I almost missed just watching this amazing sunset.
