Daily Photo – My Pride in Yekti

To see and experience the tragic life first hand of an orphan Sumatran elephant is humbling, frustrating, motivating, heartbreaking and so many other emotions on so many levels. Mostly I feel helpless. I’m only one person trying to raise awareness, funds and some kind of momentum for change for one species of many under threat on the island of Sumatra. Yekti was orphaned inside the National Park of Way Kambas in South Sumatra. She was rescued after a few days trapped and now finds herself alone and being fed by the caring mahouts of Way Kambas a bottle of milk every two hours almost 24 hours a day. I now document the great work of VESSWIC every month with the captive elephants of Sumatra, some in the same circumstances as Yekti and donate my time and photography to an amazing cause for an amazing animal. You can help out little Yekti here.
